About the Department

The courses offered by the Department of Mathematics serve several purposes; they supply the mathematical preparation necessary for students specializing in the physical, life or social sciences, in business administration, in engineering, and in education; they provide a route by which students may achieve a level of competence to do research in any of several special mathematical areas; they allow students to prepare themselves for work as mathematicians and statisticians in industry and government; and they give an opportunity to all inquisitive students to learn something about modern mathematical ideas.

Welcome to the guide for Mathematics!

I hope that you will find this guide a useful starting place for your research in Math. I have assembled a core collection of resources available through the Wayne State University Library System, as well as high quality, freely available web resources. This guide is a collaborative work-in-progress, developed with the suggestions and feedback from students and faculty in Mathematics.

I am available by appointment to assist students and faculty with research related to Mathematics. You may also contact me to schedule research workshops for classes or to suggest items for purchase.
