    Internet Resources

    GENERAL GUIDES
CAL is a private, non-profit organization: a group of scholars and educators who use the findings of linguistics and related sciences in identifying and addressing language-related problems.
Provides a large amount of links that are useful to linguists. The links are broken down into logical categories including: organizations, conferences, journals, mailing lists, topics in linguistics, and job listings.
Provides information on the programs of the Summer Institute for Linguistics, many of the Institute's on-line publications including Ethnologue: languages of the world, Languages of the Americas, SIL Bibliography and SIL electronic Working Papers and Links computer and electronic support systems and other linguistic resources.
Probably no more complete than the listings of linguistics related sites included in some of the source listed above but this site may be easier to use if you are just looking for linguistics sites. The brief evaluative comments for each site are valuable.
    The Human Language Page
Brings together information about the languages of the world from dictionaries to language tutorials to spoken samples of languages. One of the best sources on individual languages. Coverage of linguistics is less complete.

            Specialized Internet Resources

            Comprehensive website about world languages
The LINGUIST List is dedicated to providing information on language and language analysis, and to providing the discipline of linguistics with the infrastructure necessary to function in the digital world. LINGUIST maintains a web-site with over 2000 pages and runs a mailing list with over 17,000 subscribers worldwide. LINGUIST also hosts searchable archives of over 100 other linguistic mailing lists and runs research projects which develop tools for the field, e.g., a peer-reviewed database of language and language-family information, and recommendations of best practice for digitizing endangered languages data. Essentially a forum where academic linguists can discuss linguistics issues and exchange linguistic information, this site has grown to be one of the most comprehensive international sources of linguistic information. Aside from the many links to linguistic sites, this source contains book announcements/reviews, journal tables of contents, dissertation abstracts, linguistic classes/syllabi, computer support, and language resources including dictionaries. Currently maintained by Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University.
Aside from information on the main professional linguistics organization in the U.S., this site provides general information on the profession of linguistics, information on academic linguistics programs, job openings, available grants, and publications/resources with which the society is involved.
This is a glossary of terms used in the morphological, syntactic, and pragmatic analysis of text. It does not necessarily include terms specific to particular theoretical models (e.g. tagmeme).
Linguistics Online is your virtual linguistics campus. (Includes fee based services)
Provides a list of place on the web to visit for information about pragmatics.
A distribution point for research papers in Optimality Theory. Posting in ROA is open to all who wish to disseminate their work in, on, or about OT.
The SIL IPA Fonts are scalable outline fonts for both Macintosh and Windows systems. They contain every base character, diacritic, and suprasegmental mark currently prescribed by the International Phonetic Association.
This site is an introduction to some exciting aspects in the field of social linguistics is designed to encourage you to read further. There are many fascinating and odd phenomena that occur in the social aspects of language.
This page is your entree to a wide range of information about linguistics. Each page deals with a different fundamental subdiscipline of linguistics: historical linguistics, phonology (the study of sounds), syntax (the study of sentence structure), semantics (the study of meaning).
This page contains links with works on the morphology of various languages around the globe. The links are selected both for their theoretical significance and the empirical data that they contain. However, most are very useful tools for language-learning.
