Law - Health Care Reform

Legislative and policy information on recent health care reform laws.

Health Care Reform Legislation

The recently signed comprehensive health care reform legislation is actually two separate laws:  the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, P.L. 111-148, signed by President Obama on March 23, 2010 and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, P.L.111-152, signed into law on March 30, 2010.  The text of these laws is available from GPO's Federal Digital System (FDsys).  Legislative or pre-enactment materials are available via Thomas, legislative information from the Library of Congress.  GovTrack Insider's 'Health Care:  How Did We Get Here?', available in the Policy & Analysis links, gives a plain language overview of what the legislation does and does not do as well as providing a brief guide to the multi-step process that resulted in these public laws.

Additional materials include links to policy and analysis documents, side by side legislative comparisons, as well finding tools to identify news stories, articles and books.  Tabs also include links to materials in specfic areas of law practice (employee benefits, health care compliance and tax) which may be impacted by this legislation.
