Our Mission...

Shiffman Medical Library's mission as an Outreach Library is to: Inform and engage the Greater Detroit community by providing access to reliable health information and advocating for better health.

What Are Outreach Libraries?

Sixteen resource libraries are designated as Outreach Libraries in the region for the 2011-2016 contract. These libraries assist the Greater Midwest Region of the National Network of Medical Libraries (GMR NN/LM) with teaching classes on National Library of Medicine (NLM) resources, providing document delivery to unaffiliated health professionals, partnering with affiliate members of the network to conduct outreach projects, and exhibiting and/or presenting at community events or meetings of health professionals in their states to promote NLM resources and services, such as MedlinePlus and PubMed.
