Columbus Assignment

The Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Division of Art, Prints and Photographs: Print Collection, The New York Public Library. Christopher Columbus. Retrieved from Irving : Lincoln Library Photographs. (n.d.). Retrieved January 29, 2016, from

Some blame misconceptions on me, but my biography is the best -- trust me!

- Washington Irving

He's a pretty good guy.

- Christopher Columbus

In this assignment you'll investigate Irving's A History of the Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus, Volume 1, the sources he used to create this work, and what his outcome tells us. You'll also look at confirmation bias to help determine whether Irving has established that Columbus committed that mistake in reasoning. Finally, you'll investigate your own sources.

Where do you start and how can the library help (not just here, but throughout your time as a student)?
