Starting Your Research


Using This Guide

This guide provides access to selected sources of Michigan legal information.  It includes links to 'the law' (primary sources) as well as information about Michigan government, lawyers and selected legal periodicals or explanatory material (secondary sources).  Additional research sources are available to you by visiting the law library. 

This information is organized by tab:  Getting Started, Michigan Constitution, Legislation and Statutes, Courts and Court Opinions, Administrative Law, Agencies and Regulations, Municipal Ordinances, Lawyers, Professional Ethics and Secondary Sources.  'Getting Started' gives an overview of Michigan government and background into the various sources of the law as well as providing guides to starting your research.  Links to primary legal materials such as the Michigan Constitution, Michigan Public and Local Acts, Michigan Compiled Laws as well as opinions from the Michigan Supreme Court and Court of Appeals and selected municipal ordinances (city legislation) are accessible using the respective tabs.
