Lost & Found

Lost and Found

Items found in any Library are to be taken to that Library's circulation desk and turned over to a full-time circulation staff member and noted in a logbook. If the item has any identifying information (student IDs, wallets, purses, books and/or notebooks with names written in them, etc…) the circulation staff should make a reasonable attempt to contact the owner via phone or campus email.

Every lost item(s) should be documented in a logbook. NO items are to be turned over to any Library Monitor “for safe keeping” or transferred to another library/unit under any circumstances, even at patrons request.

High Value Items such as those listed below should be kept in a locked area accessible only to full-time staff and turned over to WSU Public Safety by end of each day. It is advisable that high value items are turned over to WSU Public Safety within 2 hours if possible.

  • Wallets
  • Palm Pilots
  • Cell Phones
  • Lap Top Computers
  • Jewelry
  • Items of similar value

Miscellaneous Items such as those listed below should be kept in a secured area.
  • Calculators
  • Books
  • Clothing
  • Folders
  • Keys
  • Flash Drives
  • Drivers license or State ID
  • Items of similar value

Unclaimed items should be sent to the University Lost & Found - 50 Student Center Building. (313) 577- 3484 every Monday.

OneCards - Unclaimed OneCards should be sent to the OneCard Office.

Claiming Items - Before a Lost & Found item is returned, the owner must give a detailed description to a full-time staff member. The staff member will verify the description of the item and note the transfer of property in the logbook.

Working at the Libraries
