- Allyship in Residency: An Introductory Module on Medical Allyship for Graduate Medical Trainees"Lack of diversity impacts research, medical curricula, and medical trainees' ability to provide equitable patient care. The concept of allyship, defined as a supportive association between identities with power and privilege and marginalized identities, provides an optimal framework for enhancing education about health equity. Currently, there are no established curricula focused on allyship and limited mention within current medical training literature. We propose use of allyship to increase graduate medical trainee understanding of diversity and focus on health equity."

We studied the impact of an innovative module teaching intersectionality of sexual orientation, gender identity, and race/ethnicity issues in the required Pritzker School of Medicine course Health Care Disparities: Equity and Advocacy."

- NLM Special Lecture: Gender, Race and Power in Science"Saini will explore how prejudice can affect scientific research on race and gender and will describe her efforts to uncover manipulation of evidence, abuse, and wrongdoing by those in power. She will also address the inadvertent and inappropriate use of race by mainstream scientific researchers in health and genetics. Drawing from themes in her two most recent books, “Superior: The Return of Race Science” and “Inferior: How Science Got Women Wrong”, she will show why researchers need to be careful not to conflate social gender and racial disparities with biological differences."

- Health Care System Fails Many Transgender Americans"On a recent weekday afternoon, Ruby Corado let herself into the drop-in center at the homeless shelter she founded for LGBTQ youth to make the rounds with new clients.
In the basement of Casa Ruby in Washington, D.C., transgender men and women in their late teens and 20s, mostly brown or black, shared snacks, watched TV, chatted or played games on their phones. Many of them, said Corado, are part of the 31 percent.
That's 31 percent of transgender Americans who lack regular access to health care. The finding comes from a new poll by NPR, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health."

- Health Disparities Among Mid-to-Older Deaf LGBTQ Adults Compared with Mid-to-Older Deaf Non-LGBTQ Adults in the United States"Consistent with the LGBTQ health disparity in the general population, our study findings indicated health disparities for certain medical conditions (e.g., lung disease, arthritis, and comorbidity) and mental health disorders (e.g., depression and anxiety) among mid-to-older deaf LGBTQ compared with non-LGBTQ deaf adults. Conclusion: Like the LGBTQ counterparts in the general population, deaf LGBTQ adults may require more frequent and comprehensive health care services. Culturally and linguistically competent care by providers may be invaluable in reducing such health inequities, particularly when provider education and training is undertaken through an intersectional framework that considers the interaction and context of multiple patient and provider social identities."
