Music: Books

Music resources - online and library reference materials

Books (and Scores) at Purdy Kresge Library

Books as well as scores are arranged on the shelves according to the Library of Congress (LC) Classification System. This is an alpha-numeric system used by most academic libraries. The system breaks down knowledge into twenty-two categories, or classes.

M is the classification for Music

Basic subclasses include:

M = music scores
ML = literature on music
MT = instruction and study

You can become more familiar with how music is arranged at the library by looking at the handy outline below, which breaks down the subclasses even further.
