Microsoft Surface Hubs

Apps on the Hub

The Hub has some Microsoft apps already loaded onto it, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Feel free to use these to prepare your documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, as well as practice your presentation skills on the big screen!

Tips for Hub use

Some observations from our staff:

  • You can have a maximum of two programs displaying at once on the screen
    • if you open a third program, the system minimizes one of the other programs, but does not exit out of it
  • Keyboard and mouse cannot be used by more than one person at a time / cannot be used in more than one program at a time
    • Example: you can't type in a web browser and draw on the whiteboard at the same time
  • You can rest your hand against the screen when writing on the whiteboard
  • PDFs can be viewed via web browser, but cannot be edited
  • There are Microsoft programs installed on the Hub, but our staff found that utilizing the Connect 365 versions were probably a better option because you can save your work more easily
  • During a Teams call, you can share your screen, hear audio and view video, and work in shared documents through the Teams site
    • NoteYou will need to sign into Teams using a Web-version, do not use the Teams app that is installed on the Hub
  • When you select "End Session" you will be signed out of all apps, and unsaved work. Please remember to save your documents and files prior to selecting End Session to make sure that nothing is lost.
