This chart outlines the spending trend of the American Research Libraries (ARL) on Monographs and Serials between 1985-2015.  As you will see the rate of increase in the cost of resources is far outpacing the allocated spend for most ARL libraries.  Big Deals are increasingly adding to this ever widening gulf between needed resources and what's being allocated.
