Styles: Microsoft Word's Secret Weapon with Joshua Neds-Fox, Coordinator for Digital Publishing

Style guides like APA require that you format your papers: double spaced, indented paragraphs, headings and more. Microsoft Word can do this with a few simple steps. Learn how to use Styles to automatically format your Word documents and save you hours of work.

This 30 minute workshop will introduce you to the Skillsoft collection and other online resources on these topics, available to you through the library.

Getting Started on Your Literature Review: Advanced Search Resources and Techniques with Monique Oldfield, Librarian IV

The literature review for your research paper or article may be an arduous task to start. This presentation will help prepare you to use new databases for your search and how to identify articles. We will also discuss how themes will subsequently emerge from your searching and how to organize the literature review sections.

Sage Research Methods with Monique Oldfield, Librarian IV

The Wayne State University Library System has invested in the Sage Research Methods online a collection of research methods handbooks and reference books of foundational research methods sources. Sage Research Methods is especially useful for qualitative research. In addition, Sage Research Methods includes cases, data sets, and Sage journal references. This session will present the holdings of Sage Research Methods and their usefulness.

Using Zotero to Simplify Your Research Process with Troy Walker, Graduate Student Assistant

Citation managers can save you hours of work and stress when it comes to gathering, organizing, and properly citing your research for papers and assignments. This workshop will introduce you to Zotero, a free open-source citation manager that allows you to keep your research in one place and easily create reference lists with full citations.

An Overview of the OSTP Open Access Memo for Researchers and Librarians with Joshua Neds-Fox, Coordinator for Digital Publishing

On August 25, 2022, the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy (OSTP) issued a memorandum on Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research that will make taxpayer-funded research immediately available for the public to freely access and fully use. This new guidance calls on all federal agencies to generate policies that eliminate the current 12-month waiting period for access to the outputs of federally funded research, including articles and data.

Join the administrator of the Libraries’ open access repository for an overview of the OSTP Memo, its import for researchers and librarians, responses from stakeholders, and a look at the possible impacts for the future.”
