Other tools to consider is AI. When using AI, please be cautious and review anything you make with AI resume and CV builders.

Word and Google Doc have templates that can be used to make resumes, curriculum vitae, or cover letters. 

Here are tools to help you create your portfolio. These tools are free for students to use. Most portfolio creating tools require costs if you aren't making the site yourself. 

Most resume builders use templates you can choose from to create your resume. These site specifically work better in reviewing or making resumes.

Coding Tools to Know

For students and alum that specialize in the information science pillar, or seeking jobs that align with IT or information science, having a Github with polished projects is desirable by many employers. Consider adding a link to your Github on your Linkedin Profile and on your portfolio if you choose to create one. Github provides its own tutorial.

When trying to find a job, it is important to know which programming/coding language is being most used or popular in companies. WSU SIS provides classes such as 6050 Computer Programming, 6420 Web Development, or 6460 Database Design and SQL to learn about certain programing languages. While many classes revolving around information science provide the basics of programming languages, students should always strive to become proficient in them.

  • C/C++

Photo Editing & Infographic Tools to Know

Consider learning how to use software such as Photoshop or free open source equivalents like GIMP and Inkscape. You may have use this software in your coursework in classes. Considering using software like this to create custom graphics on your portfolio, create infographics, flyers or other useful items.

GIMP is a free and open-source raster graphics editor used for image manipulation and image editing, free-form drawing, transcoding between different image file formats, and more specialized task. Information professionals may use it to edit images for use on a website or marketing, creating infographics.

Inkscape is another free and open-source graphics editor. Similar to GIMP it is can be used by Information professionals to edit images for use on a website or marketing, creating infographics.
