MeLCat Requests

How do I get my MeLCat item(s)?

Books, CDs and DVDs requested from MeL can be picked up at any Wayne State University Library. You will receive an email when your item is put on the hold shelf at your chosen delivery location.

  Due Dates

Your loan period starts the day you pick up your MeL request from the library. Borrowed items MUST be returned or renewed by your listed due date. Please note, not all renewals are able to be granted.

Standard Loan Periods:

  • Books: Three weeks
  • CD/DVD/Video: Seven days

Members of the Michigan Association of State Universities (MASU) have extended loan periods for MeLCat. Books from one of the member universities can check-out for 90 days with an option to renew for an additional 30 days. Please note that this due-date extension is limited to only MASU libraries and does not apply to media items (DVDs, CDs, etc).

  Renewals

Standard Renewal Policy:

  • Generally, one three-week renewal is allowed
  • Your window to renew begins seven days before your item is due
  • Renewals are not allowed for overdue items.
  • Renewals are also not available for items that have been recalled by the lending library, or by patrons who have excessive library fines or fees.
