The Detroit Poetry Collection

This collection of over 500 books and chapbooks, has a broad focus. Included is the work of poets who were born or who have resided in the metropolitan Detroit area, as well as those who have written about Detroit, or have had intellectual connections to the Detroit poetry community. The collection was assembled in part from donations by poets.

Hayden/Randall Centennial

Robert Hayden (1913-1980) and Dudley Randall (1914-2000) are two of Wayne State University’s most famous alumni. Through their poetry, they brought attention to the city of Detroit and the accomplishments of African Americans. In April, 2014 their 100th birthdays were celebrated on campus with a symposium, poetry reading, reception, and exhibition of their work.
